Sebastian Vettel suggests Formula 1 burns rulebook after losing appeal

Sebastian Vettel has suggested that Formula 1 "just burns the papers", referring to the regulations, in the wake of Ferrari's right to review being turned down on Friday.

The stewards from the Canadian Grand Prix reconvened at the French GP to hear the new evidence submitted by Ferrari, with Sporting Director Laurent Mekies representing the team.

But stewards dismissed the evidence, meaning that the case will not be re-opened and the final result will remain unchanged.

"The problem is we [the sport] are hurt with these things," Vettel told Sky Sports. "I think they started a long time ago, ‘did he cross the white line, or use too much kerb?’

"Let us do what we want. If you are unhappy with how we race and how we drive then build different tracks – it’s as easy as that.

"We have car parks with lines and kerbs on it.

"Anyways, it is what it is and as I said there are too many paragraphs but what do you change? I hope they just burn the papers."

He joked that retiring would be the only way to change things: "Retire! At least I know I’m not in trouble again. I’m joking. I don’t really care."

Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto provided a brief statement in the aftermath of the decision.

"I think that no doubt that as Ferrari we are all very unhappy and disappointed," he said.

"We are disappointed certainly for Ferrari, but we are also disappointed for our fans and for our sport. We do not intend to comment any further."
