Pascal Wehrlein has said that his return to form in recent races of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship has buoyed his hopes in the final stages of Season 5 ahead of his home race in Berlin.
Missing the first round of the season, Wehrlein made his Formula E debut in January's Marrakesh E-Prix and impressed from the outset, delivering Mahindra Racing with a podium in Santiago and a pole position in Mexico City.
After missing out on victory in Mexico, Wehrlein's form saw a slump, with the German driver taking only eight points in three races before a return to Super Pole for the past two rounds has boosted the driver's confidence, taking provisional pole position in Paris and starting on the front row in Monaco.
Examining this upturn in performance, Wehrlein explained that Mahindra's current rates of improvement have created a buoyant atmosphere as the driver looks to craft a successful weekend in the German capital with the Indian marque:
"It feels like everything is going in the right direction for the remaining races," said Wehrlein. "We've been in Super Pole the last two races and started from the front row in Monaco, so we’ve found the right tools again on the car to be able to fight at the top.
"Berlin seems like a difficult track because it's quite bumpy and on an old airfield, so the grip won’t be high.
"This race is going to special to me with it being home and I know it has special memories for Mahindra Racing so hopefully we’ll be able to create a great weekend together."
Jerome d'Ambrosio, who sits in seventh place in the Drivers' Championship, expressed his desire for points in Berlin, aiming to maximise his qualifying performance by running in Group Two for the first time this season:
"I like the Berlin track and I think there will be a lot of action on race day," said d'Ambrosio. "It will be interesting to see how the new race weekend format will work with having both practice sessions on Friday, particularly as we head straight into qualifying on Saturday.
"I really want to get back in the points and, for the first time in season five, I will be looking to maximise the opportunities that qualifying in Group 2 brings.
"The unpredictability this year in Formula E means anything can happen; our focus will be getting the best performance possible out of the car on race day."
The Berlin E-Prix will take place at the Flughafen Tempelhof Circuit on May 25 at 13:03 local time, with the weekend utilising a different format with FP1 and FP2 taking place on Friday.
