Princess Charlene of Monaco confirmed as Le Mans 24H starter

HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco has been confirmed as the official starter of this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans – which will bring the World Endurance Championship's 'Super Season' to a close.

This year's 24 Hours of Le Mans will be a special occasion as the first to bring a WEC season to a close, and to wave off the start of the race will be former Olympic swimmer and wife of Prince Albert II, Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, commented: "We are delighted and very proud to announce that HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco has accepted to be the starter of the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans.

"As an accomplished sportswoman, she is the perfect advocate for the promotion of women in motorsport and in society as a whole."

The 87th running of the 24-hour endurance race will feature a 62-strong entry list that includes Kessel Racing’s all-female driver line-up of Rahel Frey, Manuela Gostner and Michelle Gatting, racing  in the LMGTE Am class.

Other race starters have included Rafael Nadal, Chase Carey, Brad Pitt and Fernando Alonso.
