Job van Uitert had a hairy moment in his first ever WEC qualifying session for G-Drive, in which he was able to claim pole position.
The Dutchman, driving for G-Drive alongside Jean-Éric Vergne and Roman Rusinov, admits he made a mistake during his flying lap.
"My lap was alright, came to the bus stop, was down on the delta but then I locked all the rears and went Ken Block drifting style into the last corner. Quite happy that I at least managed to save the lap."
"It wasn’t good, but in the end, we still managed to get pole together, and that’s what counts."
G-Drive's one-off appearance at the TOTAL Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps marks Van Uitert's debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The 20-year-old won the LMP3 title in the European Le Mans Series last year.
Despite his limited experience racing G-Drive's Aurus 01-Gibson LMP2 car, Van Uitert suggested his team-mate Vergne might also have some things to learn.
"I think in the rain, he maybe needs to learn from me. But it’s something we’ll maybe see tomorrow I hope. I know that in the races I’ll be much closer to him, maybe even on the same level."
The 2019 TOTAL Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is the penultimate round in the 2018/2019 FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season, and kicks off at 13.30pm local time.
