Pascal Wehrlein secured pole position for the Paris E-Prix, becoming Formula E's first repeat polesitter in Season Five by beating Oliver Rowland in qualifying for round eight.
Wehrlein, who took his maiden pole position in February's Mexico City E-Prix, completed his initial qualifying run in Group Three and ended the group qualifying stages with the second fastest time, 0.099s behind Rowland who edged the German racer initially.
With Rowland and Wehrlein fronting Super Pole for Nissan e.dams and Mahindra, the pair were joined by Sebastien Buemi, Robin Frijns, Jerome d'Ambrosio and Felipe Massa, who, as the slowest of the top six, opened the session.
Completing a 1m 01.217s lap, Massa set down the benchmark time for Venturi in Super Pole, complaining about the dirty nature of the Circuit des Invalides while d'Ambrosio failed to match the Brazilian as the recond runner, 0.090s adrift of provisional pole.
A pacy 1m 00.793s lap from Envision Virgin's Frijns saw the Dutchman knock Massa off the top spot while Buemi emulated Frijns' pace to secure the fastest time of the session by 0.025s.
With Buemi sitting in provisional pole, the Swiss racer and former champion of the series appeared to be in a strong position, however, a competitive 1m 00.383s lap from Wehrlein eclipsed the Nissan driver's time, placing him in provisional pole.
As the final runner, Rowland was Wehrlein's only remaining challenger, securing the fastest time in sector one before making a mistake in sector two, with this handing pole position and three bonus points into the hands of Mahindra and the star rookie.
Taking pole position, Wehrlein put an end to Formula E's trend of seeing a new polesitter at each race while Rowland, despite making a mistake, secured second, fronting a Nissan 2-3 with Buemi qualifying in third while Frijns, Massa and d'Ambrosio followed to complete the top six.
GEOX Dragon's Maximilian Gunther was the best of the rest after impressing the American outfit by qualifying in seventh place while Andre Lotterer secured eighth on the grid for DS Techeetah, with Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi completing an Audi 9-10.
Outside of the top 10, Tom Dillmann put on an impressive display of driving by qualifying in 11th for NIO while reigning Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne only secured 14th on the grid, failing to make an impression on the street of Paris for a second season in succession.
Sam Bird, who failed to complete any running in FP2, qualified in 15th while it was also a difficult session for BMW i Andretti Motorsport, with Antonio Felix da Costa securing 16th while Alexander Sims was 18th, the pair separated by Jaguar's Alex Lynn with the British marque also struggling for pace.
The Paris E-Prix will take place at 16:00 local time later today.
