Americas GP third practices cancelled due to lightning storm

The third practice sessions for the MotoGP Americas Grand Prix have been cancelled following length delays caused by stormy weather in Texas.

Saturday's schedule was due to begin at 09:00 local time with the final Moto3 practice ahead of qualifying, following by MotoGP FP3 at 09:55 and third practice for Moto2 at 10:55.

However, heavy rain forced the schedule to be delayed initially to 11:00 local time, with the rain having eased by then.

But further lightning storms just as the rescheduled Moto3 session was due to get underway forced a complete cancellation of Saturday's practices.

Qualifying is due to get underway at 12:35 local time, with MotoGP Q1 set for 14:10. The qualifying schedule remains intact.

Yamaha's Maverick Vinales remains the pacesetter heading into qualifying this afternoon, having topped Friday's dry running with a 2:03.857s.

Six-time Circuit of the Americas race winner Marc Marquez trailed him by 0.044s on his Honda, with the sister works Yamaha of Valentino Rossi completing the top three.

Jack Miller was the top Ducati runner in fourth spot on his Pramac-run GP19, while factory counterparts Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci failed to make the top 10 and will face Q1.

Dovizioso ended Friday's practices 11th, attributing his loss in form in the afternoon outing to a wrong decision in front tyre choice.

LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow completed the top five on the combined timesheets, and will be joined in Q2 by Suzuki's Alex Rins for the first time this season, KTM's Pol Espargaro, the Sepang Racing duo of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo, with Pramac rookie Francesco Bagnaia the last of the guaranteed Q2 entrants.

Honda's Jorge Lorenzo will join the works Ducati duo in the first 15-minute qualifying segment, as the still-recovering Spaniard was just 16th after Friday's running.
