Helio Castroneves has grabbed pole position for the Bubba Burger Sportscar Grand Prix at Long Beach, posting a lap time of 01:11:332 in the #7 Team Penske Acura. Nick Tandy took the top spot in GTLM for Porsche.

Castroneves beat out 12 Hours of Sebring winner Felipe Nasr to pole by just over two tenths of a second, with the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac lining up alongside the Acura on the front row. Castroneves' sister car, the #6 Acura qualified third at the hands of Juan Pablo Montoya, with Joao Barbosa coming in fourth in the Mustang Sampling Cadillac.

The two Mazdas of Jonathan Bomarito and Tristan Nunez qualified fifth and sixth respectively, with the former running into trouble by hitting the tire wall at turn 6, costing Bomarito a shot at pole position.

Jordan Taylor qualified seventh in the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac, with both JDC-Miller Motorsports cars, Juncos Racing and the CORE Autosport Nissan DPi rounding out the grid.

In GTLM, Britain's Nick Tandy in the #911 Porsche, fresh off a Sebring win, beat out team-mate Laurens Vanthoor after the Belgian made an error on his final attempt which resulted in him losing out by less than a tenth of second.

A further two-tenths back, Oliver Gavin lined up third in the #4 Corvette alongside the #66 Ford of Sebastien Bourdais.

The third row was identical in shape, as the #3 Corvette of Antonio Garcia took fifth and Joey Hand came sixth in the #67 Ford. The two BMWs of Tom Blomqvist and John Edwards qualified seventh and eighth respectively.
