Arthur Leclerc, younger brother of Ferrari Formula 1 racer Charles, has joined the Sauber Junior Team for 2019, and will race in German Formula 4.

The younger Leclerc, 18, finished fifth in last season’s French Formula 4 championship, and tested Formula E machinery earlier this year as part of his development role with Venturi.

Sauber Motorsport, which runs Alfa Romeo Racing in Formula 1, created a junior team for 2019, with Leclerc the latest addition to the roster.

The company has collaborated with Charouz Racing System to field a team in Formula 2 and Formula 3 while that tie extends to incorporate the US Racing organisation in Formula 4.

Leclerc will consequently compete for US Racing-CHRS in German Formula 4, alongside fellow Sauber Junior Team members Alessandro Ghiretti, Theo Pourchaire and Roman Stanek.

"I’m super excited to be part of the Sauber Junior Team," said Leclerc.

"It’s a serious programme that is affiliated to an F1 team and my brother was part of Sauber as well during 2018.

"This is an opportunity that means a lot to me. My car will be completely different and much faster than the F4 car I drove in France, but my target is to win and move on to the next racing category.

"It’s been great to work with the guys at US Racing and Charouz. It’s a proper team and I already feel really confident with them and the car."

Ferrari-backed Callum Ilott, Alfa Romeo F1 development driver Juan Manuel Correa, and F3 trio Lirim Zendeli, Fabio Scherer and Raoul Hyman are the other members of the Sauber Junior Team.
