Revised MotoE calendar launched

A revised six-round MotoE World Cup schedule has been launched, with the season now starting at the Sachsenring in July after a huge fire destroyed all 18 bikes.

A devastating fire destroyed the entire MotoE paddock during its first pre-season test at Jerez two weeks ago, forcing the original scheduled season-opener at the Spanish Grand Prix to be cancelled.

Despite the large scale damage caused by the fire, Dorna Sports vowed to still hold the all-electric series in 2019.

The season will now begin in the first week of July at the Sachsenring, with the second round now taking place during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

The San Marino Grand Prix event will play host to a double-header at the start of September, with the final two races being held at the season finale in Valencia from November 15-17.

A test will take place prior to the start of the season, though circuit and dates have yet to be confirmed.

The cause of the first is still being investigated, though initial findings suggest a short-circuit occurred in one of the charging boxes, which led to the blaze.

It is unclear at present if 18 new Energica Ego race machines will be built for the 2019 World Cup, or if adapted versions of the road-going bike will be used instead.

MotoE – the first all-electric motorcycle racing series since 2014 – featured a star-studded line-up on its inaugural grid, including former KTM MotoGP rider Bradley Smith and multiple MotoGP race winner Sete Gibernau.

All satellite MotoGP teams, as well as a handful of squads from Moto2 and Moto3 are fielding the machinery which will make up the 18-rider grid.
