Max Guenther will stand in for Felipe Nasr at next month's Rome E-Prix, returning to the cockpit of his GEOX Dragon Penske EV-3.

Guenther joined GEOX Dragon for Season Five of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, however, was replaced by Nasr after only three rounds, with the former Formula 1 driver joining Jose Maria Lopez at the team with a full-time race seat.

With Nasr also competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2019 with Action Express Racing, the Brazilian is unavailable for the seventh round of the season in Rome and is instead racing at Long Beach on April 13.

Guenther's return to a race seat with Dragon in Rome will only mark a one-off appearance, with Nasr returning for the following Paris E-Prix on April 27.

Nasr was initially supposed to test for Dragon in January's Marrakesh rookie test, however, due to a contractual issue, the driver was unable to complete any running before it was later announced that he would be replacing Guenther, who, in turn, replaced Antonio Fuoco as the team's reserve driver.

With it being known that Nasr would miss the Rome round of the 2018/19 campaign as a result of his IMSA commitments, the identity of his stand-in at Dragon was debated, with Raffaele Marciello testing for the team in Mexico City, leading to a number of rumours linking the driver to a one-off race seat for his home E-Prix.

As Marciello is racing at Monza in the Blancpain GT Series on the same weekend as the Rome E-Prix, however, a potential double weekend of racing for the Italian was ruled out.

“I am thrilled to be back at the wheel of the Penske EV-3 No. 6 in Rome,” said Guenther.

“In the past weeks, I have supported the GEOX Dragon team as a development driver in the simulator and as a reserve driver at the races on site.

“I can’t wait to race again in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, and I will give it my all to score my first points in the series.”

GEOX Dragon has so far experienced its most difficult season in Formula E to date, with the team propping up the Teams' Championship with only two points, secured by Lopez in Santiago.
