A.J. Allmendinger is back in NASCAR, at least on a part-time basis, according to an announcement from NASCAR Xfinity Series team Kaulig Racing on Thursday. Allmendinger will drive the #10 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet in select races over the course of the remainder of the 2019 Xfinity Series season, but the team has yet to announce which or exactly how many races.

“I am excited for the opportunity to hop back into a Xfinity Series car,” Allmendinger said "I look forward to helping Kaulig Racing build their program, as well as, fight for wins with them.”

Allmdinger raced in NASCAR from 2006 through 2018, mostly in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, and most recently as driver of the No. 47 JTG-Daugherty Racing Chevrolet entry in the Cup Series. But he was releast from that team in favor of Ryan Preece at the end of last season.

Allmendinger has contested 11 races in the Xfinity Series, with his lone Xfinity Series race last season resulting in a second-place finish at Watkins Glen International. That was his first race in the Xfinity Series since the 2013 season. He won two Xfinity races in 2013 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Watkins Glen.

“I am looking forward to seeing what A.J. can do in the No. 10 Kaulig Racing Chevy,” Kaulig Racing President Chris Rice said. "He is another talented driver that we have tapped to wheel our all-star car, and I can’t wait to see it compete for wins.”

Allmdinger contested 371 races in the Cup Series, winning once at Watkins Glen in 2014. His career-stats in the Cup Series also include 11 top-fives and 57 top-10 series.

In 2019, Allmendinger has transitioned into broadcasting, working for NBC on its coverage of both IMSA and NASCAR.
