Racing Point to hold 2019 season launch in Canada

The Racing Point Formula 1 team is to hold a 2019 launch event in Canada in February, a few days before the start of pre-season testing.

The squad is set to enter its first full campaign in the championship next year following its mid-season entry under the Racing Point Force India banner.

That came after a group of investors, led by Lawrence Stroll, acquired the assets from the Sahara Force India operation co-owned by Vijay Mallya.

The team, ostensibly the same outfit that has raced in Formula 1 since 1991 as Jordan, Midland, Spyker and then Force India, went on to finish the year seventh in the Constructors’ Championship.

It is named as Racing Point on the 2019 entry list though Motorsport Week understands that this is a placeholder while a long-term solution is agreed upon and ratified.

Racing Point announced on Monday that it will hold a 2019 season launch at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto on February 13.

Pre-season testing is scheduled to begin at Spanish Grand Prix venue Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on February 18.

Racing Point confirmed last month that Lance Stroll will replace Esteban Ocon in 2019, with Sergio Perez staying on for a sixth season at the Silverstone-based squad.

Stroll has raced in Formula 1 for Williams since 2017.

Racing Point is the second team to confirm plans for its 2019 launch, after Ferrari announced last week that its challenger will be unveiled on February 15.
