Daniil Kvyat will return to Formula 1 action at this month’s post-race tyre test in Abu Dhabi, Toro Rosso has confirmed.

Formula 1 will stay on at the Yas Marina Circuit for two days of running in order to trial Pirelli’s 2019 compounds.

It marks the last group running prior to the opening pre-season test of 2019, which begins in Barcelona in mid-February.

Kvyat competed for Toro Rosso in 2014 and returned to the team after four rounds of 2016, having been replaced at Red Bull by Max Verstappen.

But he struggled for speed and consistency and was dropped from the team’s line-up towards the end of 2017, with his final appearance coming at the United States Grand Prix.

Kvyat took up a development role with Ferrari and while that did not extend to any official running, he did complete some mileage in the 2018 SF71H during a tyre test at Fiorano.

Kvyat was linked to a Toro Rosso return in the wake of Pierre Gasly’s move to Red Bull in place of Renault-bound Daniel Ricciardo, and it was confirmed in September that the Russian would form part of the team’s 2019 driver line-up.

Kvyat is now set for his first taste of the Honda-powered STR13 during one of the two days of post-season running at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Toro Rosso has yet to confirm Kvyat’s 2019 team-mate, with Formula 2 front-runner and ex-Red Bull junior Alexander Albon heavily linked to the seat currently occupied by Brendon Hartley.
