‘Not the right time’ to assess Ferrari’s 2018 F1 season – Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel says it is “not the right time” to draw conclusions about Ferrari’s 2018 campaign, as he hopes to end his season on a positive note.

Vettel led the standings after July’s British Grand Prix but has won only one of the nine events since, as his bid for a fifth title collapsed amid a series of mistakes and other setbacks.

Lewis Hamilton put the championship out of Vettel’s reach in Mexico, though Ferrari still holds a chance of overhauling Mercedes in the Constructors’ scrap.

Vettel, victor at Interlagos – venue for this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix – says Ferrari must work out where it went wrong, but only once the season is finished.

“We have two more races to go and I am looking forward to racing,” he said.

“I think this is not the right time to draw conclusions as the Championship is not completely over yet. I would like to win these last two races.

“The last two Grands Prix were better for us in terms of pace, so hopefully we can continue like that and we be able to win.

“For sure, we’ll try to do the best that we can. We want to focus on winning the Constructors’ Championship, trying to put our main competitors as far back as we can.

“Along the way something went wrong for us this year and we need to make sure we learn from it; clearly we missed something and it’s up to us to fix it and make sure it won’t happen again”.
