Daniel Juncadella has been named as HWA Racelab's reserve driver ahead of the start of the coming 2018/19 Formula E campaign which is set to commence this December in Saudi Arabia.
Juncadella, 27, worked with Mahindra Racing in a similar role throughout last season, representing the team at the all-electric single seater series' maiden rookie test following January's Marrakesh E-Prix.
Acting as a reserve within the team, Juncadella will work in a support role to full-time drivers Gary Paffett and Stoffel Vandoorne for the Season Five campaign, standing in for the latter in the final day of pre-season testing last week, completing 71 laps of running.
“I’m very grateful to the team for giving me the opportunity to continue our long-standing collaboration through Formula E,” said Juncadella.
“Formula E is a new adventure for all of us. The team have a steep learning curve in prospect and can use all the support they can get.
“My first test with the new Gen2 car was a great experience.
"I found my feet in the team right away and can’t wait to see how we will fare on our Formula E debut. But before then, we still have plenty to do.”
After scoring 61 points in the 2018 DTM series, Juncadella heads to HWA off the back of a personal best season in the ever-popular touring car championship and for HWA team boss Ulrich Fritz, the Spaniard's experience and reliability will aid the team throughout its first campaign in the all-electric single seater series.
“We’ve known Daniel for a very long time and know exactly how good his speed is and how helpful the engineers find his feedback,” he said.
“Daniel has a wealth of experience in setting up a wide range of racing cars and is thus perfectly able to support us on the racetrack as well as in simulator work.
“It’s exactly these strengths that we need in our debut season in Formula E. At the same time, we know that we can also rely on him if he has to step in at short notice.”
