Ferrari has made an aggressive choice with its tyre compounds for next weekend’s Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix.

Sole supplier Pirelli has nominated the Supersoft (red), Soft (yellow) and Medium (white) tyre compounds in order to cope with the demands of the figure-of-eight Suzuka track.

Each driver is permitted 13 sets of tyres for each weekend, from which they are permitted free choice of the three nominated compounds for 10 of the sets.

Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will have 10 sets of Supersoft tyres available, two Softs and just one Medium.

This compared to seven sets of Supersofts selected by Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, who will have four Softs and two Mediums at their disposal.

Ferrari’s choice of Supersofts is the most aggressive of any team on the grid.

At the other end of the spectrum McLaren has taken a conservative stance, choosing only four batches of the red-ringed compound.
