Romano Fenati has 2019 Forward deal terminated

Romano Fenati has had his contract with Forward Racing and MV Agusta for the 2019 Moto2 season terminated, following the “disgusting” incident with Stefan Manzi at Misano.

Fenati was black-flagged from Sunday's San Marino Moto2 Grand Prix for grabbing Forward rider Manzi's brake lever on the run through Turn 7 in retaliation for an earlier crash which dropped the pair of them out of the points.

Race Direction subsequently handed Fenati a two-race ban, while his Marinelli Snipers team confirmed on Monday morning it would be ending its association with the Italian effective immediately.

Set to join the Forward team next year, who will partner with MV Agusta, his place came under threat after MV boss Giovanni Castiglioni said he would “oppose” the move in a post on social media.

Forward and MV have since confirmed Fenati's '19 deal has been scrapped, with team boss Giovanni Cuzari claiming it “impossible” to collaborate with Fenati after the “disgraceful” incident with his rider Manzi.

“After the disgraceful episode between Romano Fenati and Stefano Manzi, it is impossible for the team to maintain its planned collaboration with the rider from Ascoli for the 2019 season,” he said.

“Fenati's behaviour is incompatible with the sporting values of the Forward Racing Team and of MV Agusta.

“For this reason, though we bitterly regret it, we are forced to cancel our project with Fenati.

“Our sport is already extremely dangerous, and any act which increases the risks involved for the riders is intolerable.”

Castiglioni added: “In all my years of watching sport, I have never seen behaviour as dangerous as this.

“A rider who can act like this can never represent the values of our company and our brand. For this reason, we do not want him to be the rider with which MV Agusta makes its return to the world championship.”

Fenati released an apology early on Monday afternoon for his part in the incident, branding it as “unjustifiable”, and says he did not “act like a man.
