Schmidt Peterson Motorsport has announced Carlos Munoz will be racing in the #6 Lucas Oil entry for the final two races of the IndyCar season at Portland and Sonoma.

Munoz will be making his first non-oval appearance in 2018 since running for Andretti Autosport at this year's Indy 500 where he finished in seventh place.

His run on the final two road courses will represent the first opportunity for Munoz to run the new aerokit in its road course configuration.

He has scored multiple podiums in Long Beach and at Houston, Pocono and Mid-Ohio, while is only win in the series came in sodden conditions in Detroit in 2015.

The Columbian will be driving Robert Wickens' car after his devastating crash at Pocono, the Canadian driver is recovering in hospital with injuries to his spine, arms and legs but is awake and conscious.

The SPM team decided to not fill the #6 car with a driver for the previous event at Gateway Motorsports Park due to the quick turnaround from the events in Pocono.

In a statement released by SPM, Munoz said: "Robert and his family have been in my prayers and I continue to pray for his recovery.

"I'm very grateful that Schmidt Peterson Motorsports have entrusted me to compete in the Lucas Oil Honda for the last two races of the season.

"I am looking forward to pushing hard for a great result for the team and Robert."
