Carlos Sainz Jr. and Stoffel Vandoorne set for back row after engine changes

Carlos Sainz Jr. and Stoffel Vandoorne will drop to the back-row of the grid after taking on fresh power unit components prior to the Belgian Grand Prix.

Sainz Jr. had qualified 16th, with Vandoorne 20th, as both struggled in Q1, the former complaining of sudden oversteer with his Renault R.S.18.

The pair were set to be promoted to 14th and 18th respectively on account of the engine-related grid penalties already suffered by Valtteri Bottas and Nico Hulkenberg.

But Renault and McLaren opted to install fresh parts of all six components that make up the power unit, meaning both will sustain penalties after exceeding their respective allocations.

Bottas will therefore move up to 17th on the grid, ahead of Hulkenberg, Sainz Jr. and Vandoorne.

Fernando Alonso, Sergey Sirotkin and Lance Stroll will also each move up a position.
