Dynavolt Intact GP's Marcel Schrötter ended the first day of practice for the British Grand Prix fastest overall as the heavens opened for the intermediate class in second practice, meaning improvements in the latter session weren't forthcoming.

The start of the afternoon session was dry, but it wasn’t long before the rain started to fall on the Northamptonshire circuit, ending anyone’s hopes of improving their times, which meant the overall standings remained as they were from the morning.

Schrötter's FP1 time of 2:08.285 was the quickest, with the German only 33rd quickest in the second session, some 20 seconds adrift.

Mattia Pasini was two-tenths adrift in second ahead of local rider Sam Lowes and Lorenzo Baldassarri. FP2's quickest man Alex Marquez was fifth overall.

Fabio Quartararo goes into qualifying day as the sixth quickest rider at Silverstone, with Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia of SKY Racing seventh in the combined times – 0.741s back from Schrötter.

Jorge Navarro continues his good run of form to finish eighth on day one, with Romano Fenati and Andrea Locatelli completing the top ten.

Championship contender Miguel Oliveira ended Friday down in P20 on the combined timesheets, with the Portuguese rider aiming to improve in FP3 ahead of qualifying for the British GP.
