Haas remaining diligent over investigation into Santino Ferrucci

Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner says he and his squad are remaining "diligent" throughout their investigation of development driver Santino Ferrucci, following recent events.

Steiner has emphasised that the team is committed to gaining a thorough understanding of the situation before making any decisions regarding Ferrucci's place within the team until after the German and Hungarian Grands Prix have passed.

Ferrucci was banned for two rounds and fined an overall €66,000 for offences he committed at the British round of the Formula 2 championship.

The issues related to hitting fellow Haas development driver Arjun Maini during both races, and on the slow-down lap, and driving his F2/18 car to the F1 paddock with a mobile phone in the car whilst wearing one glove and failing to meet the stewards over those offences.

Ferrucci's contract with the Trident F2 team was earlier terminated for those issues, which they claimed as 'unsportsmanlike', and also for alleged lack of payment for his seat towards the Italian team.

In a statement released by Haas, Steiner said: "Haas F1 Team remains committed to gathering all of the facts and having in-person conversations with all the individuals involved in the situation."

"We are being diligent, but our priority is the last two races before the summer shutdown. While we want a better understanding of everything that took place, we aren’t in a hurry because the German and Hungarian Grands Prix are, quite frankly, more important.”

Ferrucci joined Haas upon the team's entry to Formula 1 at the start of 2016 and carried out mid-season testing in both 2016 and 2017, as per regulations that young drivers are run for two of the four test days.
