After claiming pole position for the first race of the double-header New York City E-Prix on Saturday, Renault e.dams' Sebastien Buemi maintained his pace over the course of one lap to once again claim another pole position.

Buemi completed his first qualifying run in Group 2 where the Swiss racer emerged as the second fastest runner prior to Super Pole while Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Lucas di Grassi led the way at the top of the timesheets.

As the second-fastest driver in initial qualifying, Buemi was the fourth runner of Super Pole accompanied by di Grassi, Andre Lotterer, Daniel Abt and newly crowned Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne.

On a drying-out circuit, the battle for the top spot fell onto the process of track evolution and it was Buemi who saw the benefit, setting a 1m 17.973s lap time to snatch provisional pole position away from Lotterer.

As the final runner of the session, di Grassi was the only other driver who could challenge Buemi but when the Season Three champion suffered from a snap of oversteer which ultimately sent him into the wall, the battle for pole position was effectively over with three points swinging towards Buemi and the French e.dams squad.

Lotterer secured second place in qualifying and will start on the front row of the grid for the final race of the season while team-mate Vergne was third fastest in the second Techeetah, placing the independent outfit in a strong position for the Teams' Championship showdown.

Audi's Abt was fourth fastest and was followed by di Grassi who was fifth.

Mitch Evans fronted a 6-7 qualifying result for Jaguar Racing while the pair were closely followed by Sam Bird who qualified in eighth place for DS Virgin Racing.

Felix Rosenqvist qualified in ninth place for Mahindra Racing while Stephane Sarrazin completed the top 10 for MS&AD Andretti.

Outside of the top 10, Jay Penske's Dragon Racing secured an 11-12 result with Jose Maria Lopez finding an advantage over Jerome d'Ambrosio while Nick Heidfeld was 13th in the second Mahindra.

Tom Dillmann secured 14th on the grid and was followed by Luca Filippi, Nico Prost, Maro Engel, Alex Lynn, Ma Qing Hua and Antonio Felix da Costa who failed to complete a lap for Andretti after being plagued by a technical issue.
