Pirelli outlines British Grand Prix strategy options

Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli reckons a one-stop strategy will be preferable for drivers at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Pirelli has brought the Soft, Medium and Hard tyres to Silverstone, with either the Medium or Hard mandatory for one stint of the 52-lap Grand Prix.

The top 10 drivers will start the race on Soft tyres while the remainder of the field have free choice from the nominated compounds.

Pirelli has outlined that a Soft/Medium strategy is the quickest approach, with the ideal pit window between laps 16 and 19.

Alternatively, drivers can run a reduced stint of between 13 and 16 laps on Softs prior to taking on Hard tyres for the remainder of the Grand Prix.

Silverstone has been basking in hot weather this weekend and track temperatures have peaked at over 50 degrees, causing some to ponder whether a two-stop strategy will be better.

In the event of higher degradation on the Softs, Pirelli says two 12-lap stints on the yellow-banded rubber, followed by a stretch on Mediums, will be the fastest approach.
