As the sun rises on Sunday, it is the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid of Fernando Alonso, Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastien Buemi which has resumed the lead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after a strong night stint from the Spanish driver.

Having been behind since the sixth hour of the race after picking up a 60 second stop/go penalty for speeding in a slow zone area, the #8 car was over two minutes behind the sister #7 car of Mike Conway, Jose Maria Lopez and Kamui Kobayashi.

Alonso got into the car for the night shift and put in a quadruple stint in the car until sunrise, closing the gap from 110 seconds to just 30, he handed the car over to Nakajima who continued the hard work and they now lead their team-mates by over 30 seconds.

In the early hours of the morning, both Toyotas were handed 60 second stop/go penalties for speeding in slow zones the second one for the #8 car, this meant the gap was maintained between the leaders.
