Sauber has announced that Technical Director Jorg Zander has left the team with immediate effect.

Zander returned to Sauber at the start of 2017, under then-team boss Monisha Kaltenborn, as part of the team’s gradual expansion.

The operation’s addition of staff included the recruitment of Jan Monchaux as its new Head of Aerodynamics last month but Sauber announced on Wednesday that Zander has left the team.

“We would like to thank him for his dedication and we wish Jörg all the best and success for the future,” Sauber confirmed in a short statement.

“Until a new organisation will be announced, the various heads of departments and the current project leaders will continue to work on the development of the C37 and the 2019 car with the supervision of Frédéric Vasseur, CEO and Team Principal.”

Sauber has endured a difficult spell in Formula 1 but has set out long-term plans under Vasseur to return to the midfield group.

Rookie Charles Leclerc gave Sauber its best result since 2015 at last weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, scoring more points in one race than the team managed across the entire of 2016/17.

Sauber holds ninth position in the Constructors’ Championship with 10 points – having also scored courtesy of Marcus Ericsson in Bahrain.
