Edoardo Mortara to miss Berlin ePrix through DTM clash

Venturi Formula E's Edoardo Mortara will miss the Berlin ePrix due to a calendar clash with the DTM series where the Swiss racer will compete for Mercedes.

Mortara joined Formula E at the start of the 2017/18 season and has had an impressive rookie campaign to date, taking a second place finish in Hong Kong while currently holding eighth place in the Drivers' Championship.

Mortara joined Mercedes in the DTM last year after leaving Audi, and despite the Silver Arrows set to leave the series at the end of 2018 to join Formula E, it has been emphasised that Mortara's commitments to the DTM remain a priority.

"We signed Edo for DTM two years ago. That's the priority," Mercedes boss Ulrich Fritz told Autosport. "The fact that this is the last year for us makes no difference.

"Edo will be in the car at the Lausitzring, definitely. This will only be the second DTM weekend, so it is still too early."

Later in the year, the Formula E calendar will again collide with the DTM series, skewing Mortara's commitments further as the New York ePrix clashes with the DTM round at Zandvoort.

"At Zandvoort we will decide according to the situation," Fritz added. "If there is a possibility for Venturi to get something, we will talk about it.

"If he is in a promising position in the DTM, he will not drive in New York. That is clear, because the DTM has priority."

With Mortara set to miss at least one race this season while a further two could be missed due to the season closing New York ePrix being a double-header round, it is unknown who Venturi will put in the place of the Swiss racer, although the outfit fielded Michael Benyahia and Gary Paffett in January's Marrakesh rookie test, with both drivers having aspirations to race in the all-electric championship.
