Carlin’s Lando Norris set the pace as Formula 2 pre-season testing got underway at Paul Ricard.
Norris led the way both in the morning and the afternoon, as the teams reconvened for formal testing, following last month’s one-day shakedown at Magny Cours.
McLaren-backed Norris, who will step up to the secondary category with returning operation Carlin after a one-off appearance for Campos in Abu Dhabi, registered a time of 1:43.095.
Norris’ time left him 0.187s clear of Prema’s Nyck de Vries, as the Briton’s Carlin team-mate Sergio Sette Camara finished third.
Campos’ Luca Ghiotto was fourth, ahead of reigning GP3 champion George Russell (ART) and Sean Gelael (Prema).
ART’s Jack Aitken recovered from an engine change to place seventh, in front of Arden pair Nirei Fukuzumi and Maximilian Gunther, the pair sporting a revised pink livery after signing a deal with BWT.
Oliver Rowland, testing for DAMS in place of the unwell Nicholas Latifi, rounded out the top 10.
Testing will continue at the French venue on Wednesday.
