CBMM has been named as the title sponsor for the upcoming Punta del Este and Rome ePrix, increasing its involvement with Formula E after sponsoring the Mexico City, Paris and New York ePrix last year.
CBMM is the world's leading supplier of Niobium – a natural soft metal that is used in a variety of areas, including the ever-expanding electric car industry with the addition of the element to glass, steel and aluminium allowing materials to be strengthened.
While materials can be strengthened, weight can also be reduced through Niobium, with the addition of 300g of the metal into the steel of a mid-sized car reducing the weight by an impressive 200kg.
“The importance of implementing technologies such as Niobium is crucial to the continual development in the automotive sector and the push for electrification, especially as the demand for producing battery and electric motor components accelerates further," said Alejandro Agag, Formula E's founder and CEO.
Increasing its involvement in Formula E will allow CBMM to develop connections to global leaders from the electric car industry having already created an electric bike in partnership with EDG – a company founded by reigning champion and Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler driver Lucas di Grassi.
"Through the Niobium Materials Technology Project we partner with automotive OEMs and suppliers," added. Marcos Stuart, CTO of CBMM Niobium.
"Together we develop and commercialise advanced technologies in areas including lightweight, safety, emissions reduction, batteries and electronics that will drive the transformation of the automotive sector. Formula E provides a fantastic opportunity to support this objective."
