While the season opener in St. Petersburg is still well over a month away, IndyCar fans will have quite some action to look forward to in the coming weeks with two more pre-season tests set to take place.
The series’ first stop will be the Californian wine country for a one-day test at Sonoma Raceway on 5 February.
Penske will put all three of their drivers on track, including champion Josef Newgarden. Rookies Matt Leist, Robert Wickens and Jordan King are also expected to participate. Dale Coyne will bring two cars to Sonoma, the 18 of Sebastien Bourdais and the 19, whose occupant remains TBA.
Just days later, the series will conduct a three-day oval test at Arizona’s ISM Raceway in Phoenix between 8 and 10 February. With an expected roster of 23 cars (essentially the full 2018 grid).
The event will serve as an aperitif for the upcoming season with numerous off-track activities. The first two days of testing will be closed to the public, but on the 10th, fans will be able to experience the cars from the stands at no cost and get an autograph from their favourite drivers in the afternoon.
