The Larbre Competition squad has announced its intention to run a Ligier-Gibson JSP217 prototype at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
The French outfit is returning to the LMP2 category after a three-year spell running a Corvette C7.R (pictured) in the GTE-Am ranks of the World Endurance Championship round.
It will also contest the Michelin Le Mans Cup, which includes a support race for the 24-hours, with two Ligier-Nissan LMP3 cars.
Brazilian former Aston Martin factory driver Fernando Rees – who guided the Larbre Corvette to a class pole position in 2017 – is the first person to be confirmed for the LMP2 entry.
Larbre is best-known as a GT concern, and has campaigned various cars at Le Mans since its debut in 1993, including the Chrysler Viper GTS-R, the Aston Martin DBR9, and the Saleen S7-R.
It has won its class five times, starting with victories on its first two attempts with a Porsche 911, and later with back-to-back wins in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Larbre's prototype bow came in 2014, when it finished 14th overall with an Onroak-built Morgan-Judd driven by Pierre Ragues, Ricky Taylor and Keiko Ihara.
"Larbre Competition has competed 24 times at the Le Mans 24 Hours, but only once with a prototype in 2014," said Larbre team manager Jack Leconte.
"Then, we ran a Morgan LMP2, establishing a partnership with Jacques Nicolet and Onroak Automotive. Choosing Ligier was obvious, as it allows us to compete in two classes, and work with Onroak again."
"In addition to this, we are delighted to welcome Fernando back to the team. Last year at Le Mans he set pole position in the LM GTE-Am at the wheel of our Corvette, and will be a great asset to get our Ligier JSP217 to the front of the pack.”
The entry list for the 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans will be released on February 9th.
