Formula 2 driver Nyck de Vries and the DTM's Nico Muller will both take part in a rookie test organised by Audi Sport Abt Shaeffler after the third round of this season's Formula E Championship in Marrakesh.

Allan McNish, the team principal of the German outfit, highlighted the test as a "unique opportunity" and said that it will provide "a good initial impression of the car and the things that are special in Formula E."

This will mark the first time in a Formula E car for both de Vries and Muller, and with both drivers enjoying success in their respected racing series and disciplines, many eyes will be on the pair to see what they can do behind the wheel of one of the electric powered single seater machines.

“I’ve been watching Formula E as a fan for quite some time but, unfortunately, only on television,” said Muller, who has had 64 starts, four podiums and one win in the DTM series, currently driving for Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline.

"When I visit ABT Sportsline the Formula E race car is often parked alongside my DTM car – that’s when I fancy driving it, so I’m all the more excited about this opportunity,” he added.

Alongside Muller will be McLaren junior de Vries, who recently signed with Prema Racing to compete for a second season in the newly revamped Formula 2 Championship after enjoying a successful rookie campaign in 2016 with Rapax and Racing Engineering.

“Nico already belongs to the Audi family and we’ve been closely watching Nyck’s career in recent years. Both have their roots in single-seater racing and will no doubt manage well,” added McNish.

De Vries and Muller will make their Formula E debut at the Circuit International Automobile Moulay el Hassan in Marrakesh on January 14. Lucas di Grassi will be present at the rookie test to act as an instructor to the pair.
