Fernando Alonso has confirmed interest in competing at the Rolex 24 at Daytona next year as he plans to participate in "as many" races in the US as he can.
The Spaniard, who recently signed a new deal with McLaren, competed in the Indy 500 this year and led for much of the race before his Honda engine blew, forcing him to retire.
As part of his McLaren deal, he has some flexibility allowing him to race in other series, and Alonso says Daytona – which takes place during the off-season – is on his radar.
“Obviously I will do my best to race in America as many races as I can," said Alonso.
"The Indy 500 experience was one of the best races of my life in terms of feeling, in terms of racing approach. I would like to experience more American races.
"One maybe comes in January with the Daytona 24 Hours, so that will be nice."
With McLaren boss Zak Brown owning the United Autosports outfit, it's likely Alonso would join their line-up, which already consists of Paul di Resta, McLaren junior Lando Norris, Will Owen and Phil Hanson.
