Kevin Magnussen and Lance Stroll have both been handed three-place grid penalties by the United States Grand Prix race stewards for blocking rivals during qualifying.
Although Magnussen and his Haas team admitted blame and apologised to the Force India's Sergio Perez, having been led to believe he wasn't on a quick lap, the stewards decided to take action after examining footage and radio messages.
"The driver of car 20 admitted he had impeded car 11 and the team admitted it had inadvertently incorrectly advised the driver that Perez was on an out-lap," the stewards said. "The driver and team apologised to the driver of car 11 for the error."
As well as a three-place grid penalty, Magnussen was handed a penalty point, bringing his 12-month total to eight.
He qualified 20th, but with various engine penalties up and down the grid, his final starting position hasn't been confirmed.
Stroll meanwhile was caught blocking Romain Grosjean in what could have been a "potentially dangerous situation" due to the varying closing speeds according to the stewards, and was also handed a penalty point, bringing his total to just one.
