Max Verstappen is set to take a grid penalty for the United States Grand Prix, which is likely to amount to 15 places, with Red Bull expected to change the Dutchman's Renault power unit ahead of qualifying.
Verstappen moved on to his fourth and final Energy Store and Control Electronics this weekend, but with the 20-year-old having already used a fifth of three components (Internal Combustion Engine, Turbocharger and MGU-H), he will incur a further 15-place penalty should they been changed for a sixth, which is expected to happen.
Along with Verstappen, Renault's Nico Hülkenberg, McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne and Toro Rosso's new driver Brendon Hartley have all been hit with penalties this weekend for power unit-related changes.
Hülkenberg will drop 20-places thanks to a sixth MGU-H, fifth ICE and TC, whilst Vandoorne will drop just five places. The Belgian has moved on to Honda's Spec 3.8 which required an ICE change – his eighth of the season.
Hartley, on his debut, will use a sixth ICE and MGU-H, fifth ES and CE, which brings with it a 25-place penalty. The New Zealander is using Daniil Kvyat's chassis and engine allocation.
