Robert Kubica has completed a "successful" day of testing with the Williams F1 team on Wednesday at Silverstone, as the Grove outfit consider the Polish driver as a potential team-mate for Lance Stroll next season.
Kubica is hoping for a full-time comeback following multiple Renault tests in which he proved he is capable of driving a modern Formula 1 car.
However his chances of joining Renault were scuppered when the French squad signed Carlos Sainz for 2018, with the Spaniard teaming up with stalwart Nico Hülkenberg.
Williams have handed Kubica a test to evaluate the 32-year-old, but he faces stiff competition from current driver Felipe Massa, reserve Paul di Resta and Mercedes-backed Sauber racer Pascal Wehrlein.
Williams refused to divulge any details of his test, such as mileage and lap times, though it is known that he tested a 2014-spec car which is often used by Stroll during private acclimatisation tests.
Motorsport Week briefly spoke to Nico Rosberg, who is part of Kubica's management team, with the reigning world champion saying "it's too early to say [how the test went]," but added "of course it's an opportunity [for Kubica to return full-time]."
It's expected Kubica will get a second one-day test later this month, with the Hungaroring the likely venue.
