Formula 2 title leader Charles Leclerc blitzed his rivals during qualifying at Jerez to claim pole position for the penultimate Feature Race of the season.
Ferrari junior Leclerc set three rapid laps with his quickest, a 1:24.682, proving 0.260s quicker than Russian Time rival Luca Ghiotto.
Leclerc consequently extended his title advantage to 63 points, and will clinch the championship on Saturday if he converts pole position into victory.
MP Motorsport’s Sérgio Sette Câmara was third fastest, with Oliver Rowland fourth best, having squandered his best lap when he locked up into the final corner.
Artem Markelov moved into fifth place with a last-gasp effort, in front of ART duo Alexander Albon and Nobuharu Matsushita.
Nyck de Vries, Nicholas Latifi and Norman Nato completed the top 10.
