Alex Lynn has been confirmed at DS Virgin Racing for the 2017/2018 Formula E season, after signing a multi-year deal with the team.
He replaces three-time World Touring Car champion Jose Maria Lopez, joining DS Virgin’s long-time driver Sam Bird to make the first ever all-British line-up in Formula E’s history.
Lynn, formerly a Williams F1 development driver, was made DS Virgin’s reserve driver earlier this year and stepped in for Lopez at the penultimate race weekend of season three in New York.
Lopez had to miss the double-header round due to his Toyota LMP1 commitments, with Lynn taking pole position in his first qualifying session. However, he retired from both races.
He now makes the step up to a full-time race seat for season four of Formula E, which gets underway at the start of December in Hong Kong.
“I am over the moon at being promoted to a full-time drive with the DS Virgin Racing Formula E Team,” Lynn said on the announcement.
“Having worked very closely with them since January this year, it has been a genuine pleasure to learn from such a fantastic group of high quality engineers and to integrate myself into their set-up.
“Indeed, I have been made to feel very welcome throughout their organisation and I would specifically like to thank Alex Tai for not only giving me the chance to make my series debut in New York, but for subsequently promoting me to this full-time race seat.
“I am currently enjoying helping the team to further develop the car and intend to fully repay everyone’s faith in me on track next season.”
