Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne says his team "screwed up" at the Belgian and Italian grands prix, and says they need to focus and find out what exactly went wrong after they were crushed by rival Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton claimed back-to-back wins at Spa and Monza, and although he was challenged at Spa by Sebastian Vettel, neither Ferrari was anyway near the Mercedes duo at Ferrari's home race, where the pair claimed a 1-2 finish, with Hamilton more than half a minute ahead of Vettel in third-place.
"I think we just screwed up," Marchionne told Germany's RTL. "The set-up for the car was wrong. I think we underestimated the circuit.
"I think we screwed up from Belgium, from Spa, into here. Now, we need to go back to the factory and find out which way the car went sideways. But we will be back in Singapore."
Kimi Räikkönen, who finished fifth after struggling for pace, said there was no answer for the performance deficit and believes things will turn around at the next event in Singapore.
"I don’t know, obviously very difficult question as if we know [what's wrong] we obviously would improve straightway, but if you take pure layout it’s probably one of the circuits that it’s not going to be so easy for us unfortunately, our home grand prix.
"I’d be surprised if at the next race it’s not a different story, obviously at this circuits we’re lacking in speed."
