British driver Jack Harvey will compete in the final two rounds of the 2017 IndyCar season, racing the No.7 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports car.
He takes over from Mikhail Aleshin, who left the team earlier this month and was replaced for Toronto and the last race in Pocono by Sebastian Saavedra – who will also drive at Gateway.
But Harvey will take over for the final two events on the calendar, the former British F3 champion getting behind the wheel for Watkins Glen and Sonoma.
Harvey competed for SPM in Indy Lights, finishing runner-up in 2014 and 2015, and made his IndyCar debut earlier this year at the Indianapolis 500 with Michael Shank Racing and Andretti.
“It’s obviously a really exciting time for me and I’m really pleased to re-join everyone here at SPM,” said Harvey.
“We had a lot of success together in Indy Lights and I’m excited to be back with so many familiar faces.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting on track at Watkins Glen and, although I haven’t driven there, it’s definitely been a bucket list track and one that I’ve been looking forward to driving on even before I came to America.”
