Force India’s Esteban Ocon says he has made substantial gains across the first half of the campaign, and that he is now focusing on improving more time-consuming finer details.
Ocon, following a nine-race spell with Manor in 2016, moved to Force India for 2017, alongside Sergio Pérez, and has taken 10 points finishes from 11 Grands Prix, to hold eighth place in the championship.
Ocon feels he was “continuously improving” during the opening handful of events as he settled in with Force India, but is now focusing on chipping away at finer details, in a bid to make further progress.
“If you look at Australia there was a massive step until now," Ocon explained.
“In the first five races I was continuously improving, then the finer details is the rest that you need to improve and I'm starting to get this.
“This takes a bit more time obviously, and yes, I'm just learning all the time, and I will not lift off until I get my podium!"
Ocon is sure that he will be able to kick on across the second half of the campaign, having experienced each of the remaining events courtesy of his 2016 stint with Manor.
“I'm quite happy with how the season went at the moment," the 20-year-old went on to explain.
“The target was to be scoring points in every race and that's what we're doing; in Monaco where we were a bit unlucky.
“I feel more and more comfortable with the team each time I get into the car and with each race I do.
“Now I will start being on tracks I know, which helps me as well, which is good.
“I look forward to what the rest of the season brings, but at the moment I'm happy with what I've done.”
