Formula E’s season two champion and season three runner-up Sebastien Buemi says “no championship in motorsport right now has a brighter future”.
Ahead of last weekend’s Montreal ePrix finale, Mercedes and Porsche both confirmed their factory involvement in the all-electric series for season six.
The news followed on from Audi stepping up to a factory outfit for season four, and BMW upping its involvement with Andretti for season five.
With the announcement of such high-profile manufacturers joining the Formula E grid in the next few seasons, Buemi feels the championship’s future is the brightest in motorsport.
“It’s beyond any dreams for Formula E,” Buemi said. “It’s amazing news.
“Clearly [Mercedes and Porsche] it’s for season six, so we still have to do seasons four and five, but I think there is no championship in motorsport right now that has a brighter future.
“As a driver, being part of it from the start, it’s amazing and it definitely shows that politically all the manufacturers are going in the same direction.
“Even two years ago I would not have expected that, so everyone should enjoy it because we have great cars, great venues and there are great manufacturers joining.”
Buemi suffered a disastrous final weekend of season three, with a disqualification and P11 in the two races seeing him miss out on a second title to Lucas di Grassi.
