Red Bull reserve driver Pierre Gasly revealed he was slightly disappointed not to be able to carry out a low-fuel performance run as he conducted test duties in the RB13 at the Hungaroring.
Gasly returned to current-spec Formula 1 machinery for the first time since the Bahrain test in April and completed 107 laps to finish in 10th place overall.
However, the Frenchman was left to rue being unable to sample the car at its optimum potential.
“For sure it wasn’t the most exciting run plan today but testing is quite limited for the team so they always use it to test and try and collect as much data as possible,” he said.
“I have been pushing for some performance runs but in the end we had a couple of issues at the end of the morning.
“We had to focus on the long runs and unfortunately we didn’t have time to do some low fuel and softest tyres in the end.”
On how much the car had improved since his last run in Bahrain, Gasly said: “It was quite difficult today because I never ran with less than 50kg [of fuel] in the car and with race mode.
“In terms of degradation I think it was pretty good, the car felt good, most of the runs we had 80kg [of fuel] and the car felt decent for this amount of fuel.
“I think overall definitely they made some steps compared to Bahrain, just wish I could have done a few runs with low fuel just to have an idea of the balance and the pure performance of the car.
“But, still, we managed to do many laps and it’s always useful.”
