Abt Audi Sport driver and Formula E title contender Lucas di Grassi stormed to pole position for Saturday’s Montreal ePrix, beating his rival Sebastien Buemi.
Di Grassi was quickest in the group stages and was last to run in Super Pole, putting in a 1:22.869 to snatch pole away from Buemi by 0.196s.
Both di Grassi and Buemi’s laps were neat and tidy, but it was the former who had the edge, picking up three points and slashing the gap in the drivers’ standings to just seven points.
However, while Buemi was second quickest in qualifying, he looks set to drop 10 places due to a battery change after a big crash in FP2 – therefore it appears he will start from P12 and promote those behind up one spot.
Stephane Sarrazin was third quickest in qualifying, ahead of Nicolas Prost and Felix Rosenqvist – who had a slightly scruffy Super Pole lap.
Jean-Eric Vergne just missed out on the final segment in sixth, with Mitch Evans and Adam Carroll giving Jaguar its best-ever Formula E qualifying result.
Oliver Turvey and Tom Dillmann were next up, ahead of Loic Duval and Daniel Abt. Nick Heidfeld was a lowly 14th, while there was trouble at DS Virgin Racing.
Both Jose Maria Lopez and Sam Bird were unable to put in 200kW laps due to mapping issues, ending the session 16th and 18th.
Nelson Piquet Jr. struggled and made a few errors in 19th, while Jerome d’Ambrosio did not set a representative time after crossing the line after the chequered flag in group one.
