Prema driver and Formula 2 championship leader Charles Leclerc has been disqualified from qualifying for the Hungaroring feature race.
The Monegasque racer had stormed to a record seventh consecutive pole position in Friday’s qualifying session, continuing his season-long clean sweep.
However, he was disqualified from the session after it was discovered during scruitineering that his car was using a part that did not comply with the technical regulations.
His car featured shims in the differential that did not comply with the material requirements, and the stewards disqualified Leclerc from qualifying.
The Ferrari F1 junior will therefore start from the back of the grid for the feature race in Hungary.
This promotes DAMS driver Oliver Rowland to pole, with Leclerc’s closest title challenger Artem Markelov moving onto the front row.
With Rowland picking up the four pole position points, he draws level with Markelov in the standings.
Meanwhile Sergio Sette Camara was handed a three-place grid drop after impeding Nicholas Latifi.
