Audi's René Rast controlled proceedings at the Moscow Raceway to capture his second DTM victory of the campaign, propelling himself to the top of the standings in the process.

Rast claimed pole position and resisted Audi counterpart Mike Rockenfeller off the line before keeping his rival at bay throughout the course of the 38-lap race.

Rast came across the line 0.770s clear of Rockenfeller, whose deficit remained similar for the duration of the race, without getting close enough to launch a serious threat.

Reigning champion Marco Wittmann prevailed in a scrap for third place with Robert Wickens and Timo Glock.

Augusto Farfus had held the position during the early laps but in attempting to pass Rockenfeller, he was edged towards the pit entry, clipped a plastic bollard, and sustained damage.

Wittmann thus inherited third, only for Glock to capture the position during the first stint but they swapped places once more shortly after the pit stop phase.

Wickens stayed out slightly longer and jumped both, though Wickens used the cutback exiting the final corner to pass his opponent along the pit straight with seven laps remaining.

Glock came home in fifth spot, while Lucas Auer made progress from a low-key 14th spot on the grid to finish sixth.

Gary Paffett narrowly held off Mattias Ekström on the run to the line, the latter having lost ground on the first lap following contact with Glock.

Jamie Green and Maro Engel completed the top 10.
