Lance Stroll looking forward to racing on familiar territory

Lance Stroll says he's looking forward to returning to the scene of his double win in the Austrian round of last year's Formula 3 championship, as he seeks to build on his maiden Formula 1 podium.

The Austrian Grand Prix marks the Williams rookie's first event at a circuit where he has previously raced, having competed in Formula 3 in 2015/16, sweeping to last year's crown.

Fresh off the back of his first ever F1 podium in only his eighth race, the 18-year-old is excited to be returning to familiar territory.

"Austria will not be a completely new experience for me," he said, "as this is the first track of the year where I have already raced.

"I just love that track. It is so cool and a place I have enjoyed racing. It is always great going back to a track where you have been successful, and that is definitely the case here as last year in Formula 3 I had two wins and a second!

"There are not that many corners but it has a great flow and it is easy to get a good rhythm. The area is very beautiful and it reminds me of back home in Canada – one of those northern tracks with pine trees."

Team-mate Felipe Massa is hoping to bounce back from a disappointing Baku where he was placed second before a rear damper failed, forcing him to retire.

"Austria is a really fun track to drive. We are normally quite competitive there. In the past I’ve had some good races where I’ve finished on the podium, and I had my pole position in 2014. I also really enjoy spending time in Austria.

"So I hope that we can have a good weekend and that I can bounce back from the disappointment in Baku."
