Helio Castroneves will start Sunday's Kohler Grand Prix from pole position – the 50th of his IndyCar career and third this season – after a blistering lap at Road America.

The Penske driver put down a 1:41.3007 to pip team-mate Will Power by just 0.0604 of a second, with the other two Penskes of Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud taking up the second row in third and fourth, three and seven tenths adrift respectively.

Chip Ganassi's Scott Dixon lines up fifth having recovered from a poor Friday practice, with Graham Rahal in sixth after choosing to save a set of the red softs, completing his 1:45.0464 on the black Firestones.

Ganassi’s Max Chilton came close to making the Firestone Fast Six, eventually missing out by just 0.0612, putting him ahead of Andretti Autosport's Marco Andretti, eighth.

James Hinchcliffe starts ninth for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports alongside Charlie Kimball, the Ganassi driver completing the top ten.

Limited practice for Mikhail Aleshin due to visa problems proved costly and he was only 19th quickest ahead of Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato and Conor Daly in last place.
