Corvette loses ground in pre-Le Mans Balance of Performance

A new wave of changes to the GTE Balance of Performance have been carried out ahead of next weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours, with Corvette taking the largest hit following its strong showing at the official test day.

Oliver Gavin's time of 3m 54.701s behind the wheel of the #64 Corvette was the quickest of last week's test, putting the American marque three tenths of a second up on the second-placed Porsche 911 RSR.

Consequently, the pair of C7.Rs will run with smaller air restrictors (-0.5 mm) during race week, whilst the other manufacturers keep the same size.

Additionally, all GTE-Pro cars have undergone changes to their fuel capacity.

Ferrari and Aston Martin will run with the largest fuel tank increases of three litres, whist the Corvettes and Fords receive an extra two litres and the Porsches an additional one litre.

This latest round of adjustments is expected to be the last before Wednesday's opening free practice session, but there are no restrictions regarding later changes following the onset of track activity.

Prior to the test, the Ford GTs were pegged back with a 15 kg weight increase (+20 kg from last year) which saw the Chip Ganassi-run squad's quartet of cars lap at the foot of the GTE-Pro order.

Other changes included a smaller weight increase for the pair of Aston Martin Vantages, which were also dealt an air restrictor raise of 0.8 mm, and the Corvettes which were handed a now-reduced 0.7 mm restrictor lift.

In GTE-Am, the eight Ferrari 488s entered have been granted a marginal turbo boost increase.

At the test day, the quickest Ferrari (#62 Scuderia Corsa) finished fourth in class, 0.3 seconds off the pace set by the #98 Aston Martin.

The first practice session for the 85th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 14th at 16:00 local time.
