Tristan Vautier will return to the IndyCar series for this weekend’s round at the Texas Motor Speedway, taking over the No.18 Dale Coyne Racing car.
The team’s regular driver, Sebastien Bourdais, is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a crash during qualifying for the Indianapolis 500.
James Davison replaced him for the famous race, with ex-F1 driver Esteban Gutierrez then making his IndyCar debut in the No.18 car at the Detroit double-header least weekend.
However, he was ruled out of competing at Texas due to his lack of oval experience, with Vautier being called up to replace him for the next round.
Vautier won the 2012 Indy Lights championship before stepping up to IndyCar for a full season in 2013. He put in a part-season in 2015 with Dale Coyne and has since moved into sportscars.
“I'm really looking forward to getting back in an Indy car and race for Dale again,” he said on his IndyCar return.
“I really can't wait to be in the car on Friday and see how it feels that first lap around.
“It's not the easiest place to step back in and practice is going to be very limited, but the team has been competitive everywhere, and I trust we'll be good.”
