Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi will take part in seven practice sessions with Haas in 2017, the team confirmed on Wednesday.
Giovinazzi made his Formula 1 bow with Sauber in Australia, in place of Pascal Wehrlein, who was deemed unfit in the wake of his Race of Champions crash, and the Italian remained in the cockpit for the next event in China.
Giovinazzi participated in testing for Ferrari in Bahrain and will now sample Haas' VF-17 in first practice sessions at Grands Prix in Britain, Hungary, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
"In a year that’s already been filled with great opportunities, I’m proud to have another one with Haas F1 Team,” said Giovinazzi.
"Being the third driver with Scuderia Ferrari is obviously a great place to be, and getting seat time in these FP1 sessions with Haas F1 Team will keep me sharp.
"I’ll be able to take what I’ve learned in the simulator and apply it in actual race conditions. I’m proud of the faith Ferrari and Haas have in me and gracious for the seat time Kevin [Magnussen] and Romain [Grosjean] are sharing with me."
Magnussen will step aside for Giovinazzi for six of the sessions, with Grosjean making way in Mexico.
Giovinazzi was appointed as Ferrari's reserve driver for 2017, having finished as runner-up to Red Bull-backed Pierre Gasly in last year's GP2 championship.
